DENTAL X-RAY ENHANCEMENT USING IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES
Abstract
The clinical evaluation of dental anatomy and pathology heavily relies on medical imaging, with billions of images performed globally. To improve the accuracy of diagnoses, imaging processing techniques are employed to enhance image quality. Dental images often present a complex mixture of unwanted background information, diagnostic details, and noise. This paper aims to enhance the quality of dental images by employing denoising and structure detection methods. Materials and Methods: This experimental study focuses on dental images preliminarily diagnosed with various oral diseases. The primary objective is to utilize image processing techniques for enhancing the quality of dental X-rays, including Orthopantomograms (OPG) and Periapical images. A convenience sampling method was employed to collect dental images, which were then processed using the MATLAB program. Data analysis was conducted using MATLAB, and statistical analysis involved precision and recall computation. Overall, this research seeks to contribute to the refinement of dental imaging, ultimately improving diagnostic accuracy and patient care in the field of dentistry.
