INDUCTION MOTOR CONTROL BY EMPLOYING SEPIC CONVERTER FOR ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS
Abstract
Applications involving low and medium-voltage Induction Motor (IM) drives are not suited for conventional Buck, Boost, and Buck-Boost converters. These DC-DC converters are also unsuitable for reducing harmonic distortion, maintaining a consistent output voltage, or power factor adjustment. In this article, three sophisticated DC-DC converters—SEPIC, Zeta, and Landsman converters—are examined to overcome the shortcomings of basic DC-DC converters. Depending on the required load, these converters operate as BuckBoost converters. The soft starting of squirrel cage induction motors is another usage for it. To power the induction motor drive, these converters' output is fed into a three-phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). Using the MATLAB Simulink program, the three converters' operations are compared for IM drive applications.
