PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY, ITS IMPORTANCE, AND STRATEGIES TO BE ADOPTED
Abstract
The main goal of teaching mathematics is problem solving since it gives pupils a general aptitude for dealing with common problems and applying math in real-world situations. For students to excel in school and in life, they must be able to reason critically and with good logic. Problem-solving ability helps in finding a solution to a problem that is not immediately obvious. During the ancient period, the felt need for finding solutions to problems enhanced and made this ability a very essential skill in a wide range of fields today. Problem solving strategies have to be inculcated in students, as these enable them to comprehend, evaluate, and resolve problems. The teacher plays an important role in enhancing problem solving skills in students through the cultivation of habits like natural curiosity, thinking, and reasoning. Students should be exposed to different procedures and methods for arriving at solutions to problems.
